Lights In The Night (Babekuhl x Sam Whiteside)

Shell House

“SYSTEM MIDNIGHT” – Babekuhl
Margaret St & Wynyard Lane Facade / Every Day

A large format artwork which draws on human movement and experimental video art practices to embody feelings of freedom and reawakening. Created by new media art collective, Babekuhl in collaboration with choreographer Aleese Gabir, System Midnight embraces a hyperdelic approach to technology in art. Through a maximal use of scale, time and colour, Babekühl aim to create work that is a joyous, ethereal vision of young Sydney after dark.

“G A T E // -33.86520339443687, 151.20668589195859” – Sam Whiteside
Clocktower Bar / Tuesday-Saturday

An uncanny structure floats in a void, suspended above the Clocktower Bar. Repetition, monochromatic light and shifting perspectives combine in Whiteside’s installation – inviting the viewer to speculate on the work’s origin and draw their own fantastical conclusions.

SIGNAL 1 – Babekuhl & Sam Whiteside
Sky BarTuesday-Saturday

Focused spires of white light pierce the evening sky, projecting from Shell House’s Clocktower architecture. This light sculpture speaks directly to the surrounding city and its inhabitants – a public call to the site and the life within it.
